TOURIST INFO : MONSOON CUP TERENGGANU 2010
Pulau Duyong Ri-Yaz HotelPULAU DUYONG This is it. This is where the coveted cup will take place. A place that sits at the mouth of Terengganu River, Pulau Duyong is renowned for brilliant sailing vessels built meticulously and masterfully by local boat builders—no blueprint needed, just paint a picture into these craftsmen's heads and they will work their magic based on working memory and experience.
Rent a bicycle; peddle it around the rustic streets. See the villagers unload bunches of bananas and baskets of chepedak fruits (a very pungent but delicious fruit) at the local market. Admire the timber-laden homes that usually entail a porch at the entrance. Smell the famous dried and salted fish from the friendly neighbourhood stalls. Evenings are the best time to go as the young children come out to play on the banks. With their kites, they even have inter-village competitions where they will compete to be the 'king of kites'. There is also a nice 'palace' in Kota Lama (old town), artfully designed with wood carving piercing techniques. Empty inside but the structure gives a good idea to the local architecture of the good old days. Perforated wood panels on the top of solid wall panels provide good ventilation and also allows light to seep into the otherwise dark interior.

The Kota Lama Duyong (Duyong Old Fort) is a remnant of his era. Due to its geographical shape and the locational significance in terms of religious scholarship, Pulau Duyong has been referred to as "the tongue of Terengganu".
